Session Title: QPR Gatekeeper Training

QPR stands for Question, Persuade, Refer. This session will cover how to question, persuade and refer someone who may be suicidal.  These are three simple steps that all of us can learn to save a life from suicide.

Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States, leading to nearly 46,000 deaths in 2020.

A 2020 CDC study found that the suicide rate among workers in certain industries was significantly greater than the general U.S. population. The industry groups that had the highest suicide rates are:
  1. Mining, Quarrying, and Oil and Gas Extraction (males: 54.2 per 100,000)
  2. Construction (males: 45.3 per 100,000)
  3. Other Services (such as automotive repair; males: 39.1 per 100,000)
  4. Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing, and Hunting (males: 36.1 per 100,000)
  5. Transportation and Warehousing (males: 29.8 per 100,000; females: 10.1 per 100,000)

Speaker:
Steven Frost, Safety Manager, Howard S. Wright, a Balfour Beatty company, certified trainer of QPR’s industry-leading approach to suicide prevention: Member, Construction Suicide Prevention Partnership, National Workplace Suicide Prevention and Postvention Committee

Join us on Thursday, September 8, 2022, from 10:00 am to noon for this special SHARP Alliance presentation.  There is no cost to attend this session.
